- What
- Earthquake drop-cover-hold drill
- When
- 2/28/2023
THIS IS NOT AN EVACUTION DRILL.
Please look over the steps below for a reminder of the procedures:
When the shaking begins (PA announcement):
Indoors
Initiate the DROP, COVER and HOLD ON action as described in the following steps.
Drop to knees facing away from windows.
Get under desks or tables and hold on to the furniture where possible.
Fold body onto floor with arms close to knees.
Place head as far as is possible between knees and grasp furniture leg; cover the crown of the head with the other hand.
Stay in this position until the shaking stops.
Outdoor Earthquake Drill Procedures
Stay clear of buildings, power lines, light poles, etc.
Drop to the ground, cover head if possible and hold onto a stable object if available. If a stable object is unavailable, place head as far as possible between knees and cover crown of the head with hands.
Remain clear of obstacles and wait until the situation stabilizes and designated staff member gives all clear.
Teachers, if you do not have any students in-person, you should still adhere to the procedures.
This will be a brief drill, but in an actual emergency, an earthquake can take several minutes to cease, which would then be followed by an evacuation to the Assembly Area (football field).
